"I Will Teach You to Be Rich" By Ramit Sethi

I know what you’re thinking. A financial book? But bear with me here.

Ramit Sethi’s New York Times best-selling book I Will Teach You To Be Rich is simple, straight-forward, and direct. It’s perfect to digest the world of finance for laypeople like myself. Ramit offers easy-to-use plans on how to manage and grow your money. He even gives you dialogues that you can directly use to increase your credit limit, lower your APR, and negotiate fees from your banks (which in the end, can potentially save you thousands of dollars every year).

The best part? He’s entertaining. Don’t think you’re going to pick up this book and read boring financial jargon. Take for instance the fact that he compares people with no credit card debt to the ‘80s Salt ‘N Pepa song “Push It.”

What you also need to know is that Ramit is unlike other finance gurus who tell you to cut back ruthlessly on your spending. His philosophy is that money is meant to spend, after all. He teaches you how to be smart about your finances so that you can reallocate money to the things you actually care about rather than all the things you don’t.

He covers the basics of investing and where and how to start. For those of you already on your financial A-game, he goes into more detail on how you can maximize your investing. He even tells you how to automate your accounts (full with flow charts and pictures for the visual learners, like myself) so that each month, money funnels into your accounts and you don’t even have to think twice about how much you’re saving or spending or investing. It’s all done automatically.

If you’re in your twenties or thirties, this is a must read. I wish I could go back in time five or ten years and pass on some of this wisdom to my younger self.
